PocketSword is a Bible Study app available for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch (iOS 8.0 and above). It is built upon the powerful SWORD backend developed by the CrossWire Bible Society.
The app provides the ability to download modules for offline use, with permission granted by copyright holders to CrossWire for distribution within its apps. Upon downloading the app, it comes pre-installed with the KJV (King James Version) and Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible. However, PocketSword also offers an in-app downloader located under the More tab that allows users to choose and download additional modules from CrossWire for offline use.
Modules
There is a wide range of free modules available in over 60 languages, including various Bible translations and commentaries. Some of the popular translations available in English include KJV, AKJV, ASV, ESV, NET, Tyndale, WEB, and Young's Literal Translation.
As for commentaries in English, popular options include Matthew Henry's Complete Commentary on the Whole Bible (both the complete version and the "Concise" version), Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, John Wesley's Notes on the Bible, Abbot, Barnes, Geneva, Luther, and more. Dictionaries such as Easton's Bible Dictionary and Nave's Topical Bible Dictionary are also available within PocketSword.
Furthermore, PocketSword offers daily devotionals (found under the More tab), which includes Spurgeon's Morning & Evening.
Users also have the option to create their own modules using tools provided by CrossWire and install them directly from their computer to their iPhone.
